Roldan Rodriguez achieved his first podium in Hugaroring in the GP2 series during his debut after finishing third following a great race where he was fighting for the win.
The spaniard started third thanks to his sixth place achieved on yesterday’s race, reason why he was not going to leave the occasion to fight for his first podium of the year. This way he initiated well gaining rapidly one place after passing Villa in a great manoeuvre, getting third after Zaugg.
At the beginning, Rodriguez imposed a strong pace trying to reach Zaugg, maintaining the rest two seconds behind. Nevertheless, the South African, with a slowest pace on the track, made the distance among Rodriguez and the chasing group, in which Carroll, Di Grassi y Glock where, began to reduce.
Touching Zaugg
The spanish Minardi driver, conscious that passing Zaugg will allowed him to scape, he tried to, but during his manoeuvre they touched each other, affecting the race and Villa and Carroll took the chance to pass him. This way, at the middle of the race, the Minardi driver was third trying to get Caroll, but he had to slow down as his car was damaged. The troubles with the gear box were going to be with him until the end of the race.
From this moment the spaniard focused on enlarging the distance he had with the Di Grassi, with whom he had no troubles in doing so lap after lap.
Finally, Rodriguez managed to cross the finishing line third, achieving his first podium in the category, proving his progression in the GP2, where he is eleventh in the classification only separated by ten points from the “top ten” on his debut year, having got achieved points in five races.
